TAOS — Witnesses reported Saturday afternoon what appears to be the third apparent suicide death at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge in less than a month.
Traffic was reduced to one lane for about 30 minutes and then reopened in both directions after the report around 2 p.m. Pedestrians were cleared from the bridge at about 2:20 p.m. The Taos News has not independently verified the death.
According to police scanner traffic, Taos County Central Dispatch received a call regarding a despondent individual on the bridge shortly before 2 p.m. Minutes later, a caller or callers reported a person had jumped from the structure, which spans the gorge 600 feet above the Rio Grande.
