As a growing number of older adults in the state grapple with compounding crises — caregiver shortages , economic hardships and gaps in services, particularly for rural residents — more than 1,000 seniors are set to arrive in Northern New Mexico this week for a three-day event aimed at addressing some of the issues they face and helping them build new skills.

The state’s nearly half-century-old Conference on Aging, scheduled Tuesday through Thursday at Glorieta Adventure Camps in Glorieta, features sessions on estate planning, nutrition, fall prevention, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia — plus some summer camp-style activities like archery, arts and crafts and games.
