JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Off to a rough start already in an eventual loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Texans absorbed another hit in the first half.

Texans All-Pro corner Derek Stingley Jr., signed to a three-year, $90 million contract extension during the offseason, left the game with an abdomen injury and was replaced by Tremon Smith. Stingley went to the locker room for further evaluation. He was later ruled out officially for the remainder of the game.

To not have a shutdown corner like Stingley Jr, his absence was felt during a 17-10 road loss at EverBank Stadium.

“Yeah, Stingley had an oblique injury,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said. “He’ll be day-to-day. We’ll see how he progresses throughout the week.”
