REVERE, Mass. —

Local trash workers for Republic Services are returning to work Monday after a deal was reached to meet a monthslong strike.

Teamsters Local 25 and Republic Services announced a five-year deal on Friday. The agreement ends a trash collection strike that impacted more than a dozen local communities.

Union members were fighting for higher wages and better benefits.

No details of the contract have been shared.

Even though Republic workers are returning to work, customers may still see pickup delays.

In Malden, city officials said the process of restoring normal service will require drivers to complete "mandatory retraining."

Republic is thanking customers for their patience during the past few months.
