EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - According to a police report, the suspect in a shooting involving an Evansville Police Department officer has been identified.
Officials say Jailani Chew is accused of shooting an EPD officer after police say he and a juvenile both ran off during an investigation at the Rally’s at Virginia Street and Highway 41 early Sunday morning.
Police say while running off, Chew pulled out a gun and started shooting, which hit one of the officers. They say officers returned fire and hit Chew.
Both Chew and the unidentified officer were taken to the hospital.
Evansville Police Chief Philip Smith says the officer is currently stable, however, no other information has been released.
