LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A science teacher-turned-barbecue pitmaster is working to share the ins and outs and science behind barbecue, which brings precision, passion and personality to every brisket, rib and backyard cookout.

Known as the Mad Scientist BBQ on YouTube, Jeremy Yoder was a science teacher with a degree in biochemistry before becoming a pitmaster.

“I love the kids, really enjoyed the teaching, but didn't like the job,” Yoder said.

Yoder searched for a hobby as an escape. That's when he got his first smoker.

“It gave me the opportunity to discover that I'm passionate about cooking barbecue,” Yoder said.

It went from cooking barbecue on the weekend to during the week, too.
