STREETSBORO, Ohio — The Streetsboro City School District canceled classes at all of its schools Monday amid a police search for a male who "appeared to be carrying a long gun" not far from the campus.

At 6:50 a.m., the district put out the following post on its Facebook page: "Out of an abundance of caution, schools will be closed today due to police activity in the area. The Streetsboro Police Department will provide updates when available."

Just after 8 a.m., Streetsboro Police Chief Patricia Wain released a statement explaining that a city employee "saw a male walking on SR 303 near Kirby Lane" at approximately 6 a.m. and "appeared to be carrying a long gun." The man was apparently seen wearing all dark clothing.
