AUSTIN, Texas — Police are searching for a driver who hit and killed a person in North Austin early Monday morning.
The Austin Police Department (APD) said the crash happened just before 1 a.m. in the 9600 block of North Lamar Boulevard, near Rundberg Lane.
Police said it appeared the driver hit a pedestrian, then drove away. The pedestrian died at the scene.
Part of North Lamar was closed in both directions early Monday morning, but the road has since reopened.
APD said this incident is being investigated as Austin's 74th fatal crash of the year, resulting in 77 deaths. On the date of the crash in 2024, there had been 64 fatal crashes, resulting in 69 deaths.
