AUSTIN, Texas — A newborn baby is recovering in the hospital after being found in a North Austin apartment dumpster on Saturday.

The complex was on North Lamar Boulevard near Payton Gin Road.

“The baby is doing better and remains in the hospital for evaluation,” wrote a spokesperson for the Austin Police Department in an email to KVUE on Monday afternoon.

Detectives are still working to track down the baby’s parents. No charges have been filed so far.

“The baby is doing well,” said Misty Enos, supervisor of investigations at Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), during an interview with KVUE on Monday afternoon. “We are hopefully going to be looking at discharge into a safe environment.”
