(WENY) -- Governor Kathy Hochul wants New York’s young people to swap scrolling for time outdoors.
She announced the “Get Offline, Get Outside Challenge” at the state’s annual Fall Festival in Cheektowaga. The program, run through the Department of Environmental Conservation, asks kids ages 12 to 18 to complete 50 outdoor activities before they turn 19.
The goal is to give teens a break from social media while encouraging healthier habits. Hochul said, “I want our young people to have fun learning and growing, not clicking and scrolling.”
The list of activities includes things like:
Walk, run or roll a mile
Learn to cast a fishing rod
Set up a tent
Identify an animal by their tracks
Grow something from a seed
Have a picnic outside with family or friends
Try a new hiking trail o
