SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Your work week will start very warm, but the next cooldown arrives midweek along with more Sierra storms.
The normal high for the first day of fall is 87 degrees, but valley temperatures will climb to around 96 instead. The surge comes from northerly winds ahead of high pressure moving onshore from the Pacific. Skies will stay sunny as foothill highs reach the low 90s, while the Sierra enjoys dry, quiet weather with highs in the mid-70s.
High pressure settles overhead on Tuesday, reinforcing the heat. By Wednesday, clouds will increase as a low off the Southern California coast pushes inland and northward.
Showers may reach the Sierra Wednesday evening, with a brief shower also possible in the foothills and valley. Daytime highs will then dip back into the upper 80
