A 46-year-old man, Maliki Khethani, from Mponela in Dowa District, tragically took his own life after reportedly mismanaging funds entrusted to him by his employer.
According to Mponela Police spokesperson Macpatson Msadala, the incident occurred on September 21 in Kontho Village.
Khethani, who was working as a maize buyer, allegedly misappropriated money equivalent to six bags of maize that belonged to his employer.
Fearing the consequences, he is believed to have died by suicide in the house where he lived.
“A man came to sell maize to the deceased, and when he received no response, he entered the house and found him hanging,” said Msadala.
Khethani was originally from Chiphwanya Village, under Traditional Authority Kalolo in Lilongwe District.
