The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) has opened an investigation into a police intervention that occurred Sunday in Longueuil, which left one person dead.
According to preliminary information from the BEI, released Monday morning, officers from the Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service (SPAL) responded shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a group of armed individuals moving through a public place.
The 911 call was made at 2:48 p.m., and officers arrived at the scene around 2:58 p.m. At that time, officers reportedly came into contact with members of the group.
A person was reportedly shot. Police officers provided first aid until paramedics arrived.
The person was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Five BEI investigators are assigned to the case and are being
