ERWIN, Tenn. (WJHL) — As we near the one-year mark since Hurricane Helene, one church in Erwin took time to reflect and even celebrate on Sunday.

The event at Evergreen Church was called "Hope Sunday," a celebration of God’s goodness after Helene.

The church invited many who helped in the recovery process for a service and luncheon, and presented appreciation plaques. Those recognized included first responders, the EMA, the sheriff’s department, other churches, the school system and disaster recovery volunteers.

Through those volunteers and many donations, the church has been able to remodel five homes and is in the process of rebuilding nine homes that were damaged or destroyed by flooding.
