MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A city committee has voted against a casino proposed on First Avenue in Manhattan.
The Community Advisory Committee voted Monday not to move forward the Freedom Plaza application for 686 First Avenue.
Manhattan elected officials, including Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine and State Senator Kristen Gonzalez, celebrated the vote.
"Our neighbors on the East Side of Manhattan have communicated to us... significant concerns regarding increased congestion, public safety, and the quality of life concerns this project would introduce into our community," the group of elected officials said.
It’s the third casino proposal to be stopped in its tracks in New York City. Committees have already voted against a Caesars Palace in Times Square and The Avenir on 41st St
