APEX, N.C. (WNCN) — A car crash claimed the life of a teenager and badly hurt two others over the weekend, police said.

According to the Apex Police Department, officers responded to a car crash in the area of Highway 64 near Knollwood Drive at 10:30 p.m.

Police said the crash only involved a single vehicle, a white Chevrolet Malibu, which they said left the roadway and struck a drainage ditch, and rolled several times.

Three people were inside the car at the time of the crash, police said, a 17-year-old driver and two 16-year-old passengers.

Police said the 16-year-old passenger in the back seat was partially ejected and died as a result of his injuries. The driver and the other passenger were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver has been charged with misdemeanor death
