A British father of two has been crowned the World Gurning Champion, outshining a host of comical-faced contenders.

Ryan Barton, 42, clinched the title during the peculiar annual contest in Cumbria over the weekend.

The global competition involves participants placing their face within a horseshoe collar and pulling an absurd facial expression.

Numerous hopefuls participated in the event, which is part of the Egremont Crab Fair in Cumbria, also featuring wheelbarrow races and horn-blowing competitions.

The victor is chosen by judges based on who exhibits the most dramatic transformation between their regular face and their gurning face.
