Glasgow actor Peter Capaldi made the day of a Scotrail staff member after posing for pictures with him on one of their trains.

Capaldi, who is known for playing Doctor Who and foul-mouthed Malcolm Tucker in the BBC sitcom The Thick Of It, was spotted posing alongside the staff member at the weekend.

Posting to social media, the rail operator joked that the actor came forward following an announcement requesting a doctor.

Captioning the picture of Capaldi alongside the staff member, Scotrail said: "When you make an announcement for a Doctor...not what we were expecting!"

Capaldi fans took to the comments, delighted to see him making the most of Scotland's trains.
