FORT MADISON (WGEM) - Visitors and competitors from all over the Midwest gathered in Fort Madison Saturday and Sunday for the Iowa High School Rodeo.
Iowa junior high and high school students competed in the rodeo, performing all the same events one would see in a main rodeo.
“Bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, pole bending,” said Lisa Wood, Secretary for the Southeast Iowa High School Rodeo Committee. “We also do goat tying for the girls and the junior high boys.”
Over 100 members from 5th through 12th grade competed, including contestants from Nebraska, Missouri, and Illinois.
Fifth through eighth graders were part of the junior high competition, and ninth through 12th graders were part of the high school competition.
