56 people were killed in crashes last year, the highest in a decade, Calgary police say

Calgary police and the City of Calgary are launching a campaign to educate Calgarians on the dangers of reckless driving after a record number of people died in collisions in recent years.

The campaign will take the form of half-a-minute to minute-long advertisements involving the story of someone who was responsible for a fatal collision.

“Something deeply concerning is happening on Calgary’s roads,” Calgary police Supt. Jodi Gach.

She said that 56 people were killed in crashes last year, the highest in a decade. “This year, we’re on track to surpass,” she added.
