Lucas Rodriguez-Lopez’s hands were shaking when he got the call to play quarterback for Burke Catholic during the second quarter of Friday night’s non-league game against James I. O’Neill.

And Rodriguez-Lopez had every right to be nervous. Before Friday, he had never taken a snap under center.

However, after starter Tim Brogan went down with a broken fibula, Rodriguez-Lopez was summoned by Burke Catholic coach Aaron Hasbrouck on the fly to step in. The star wide receiver turned signal caller led the Eagles to a 21-14 win.

“It was heartbreaking to see Tim go down,” said Rodriguez-Lopez, a junior. “I was nervous, but I knew I had to step up for my team. I put on my big boy pants and knew I had to get the dub (win). It feels awesome, but I still feel bad for Tim losing his senior season.”
