ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The University of Rochester Medical Center is set to triple the size of Strong Hospital's emergency department, marking a major milestone in its expansion efforts.
The expansion, which includes a more than $50 million investment, will feature a nine-story inpatient bed tower and add 112 inpatient beds to address chronic bed shortages and overcrowding.
On Monday, a ceremony was held to celebrate the final metal beam being put in place, recognizing the completion of the project. Strong Memorial staff and URMC leadership got to sign the beam and "make their mark on history."
"Often patients wait in the emergency department because they can’t get to a bed in the hospital," said Kathy Parrinello, President and CEO of Strong Memorial Hospital, "Not only does this crea
