HOUSTON, Texas — A Purdue University graduate and Columbus, Indiana native is one of 10 candidates chosen for NASA's latest astronaut class , announced during a ceremony at the Johnson Space Center in Houston Monday morning.
Yuri Kubo, 40, was selected from roughly 8,000 other candidates.
Kubo and the nine other men and women chosen will undergo nearly two years of training before being eligible for space flight assignments to the International Space Station and future planned missions to the Moon and to Mars.
They all reported to training earlier this month.
NASA astronaut classes occur roughly every three to five years, with the last class being chosen in 2021.
