INDIANAPOLIS — The next death row execution in Indiana is just over two weeks away . The Indiana Parole Board listened to emotional testimony Monday about whether Roy Lee Ward's life should be spared during a daylong clemency hearing at the Indiana Government Center South auditorium.

Ward’s attorneys told the five-member panel that he is not a severe psychopath as labeled during his two jury trials, both of which resulted in convictions with the death penalty.

"Roy is a person filled with remorse,” said Lawrence Komp, an attorney for Ward. “He is a person filled with sadness. Roy is filled with self-loathing. He is filled with shame. These are not the sentiments and the expressions that you hear from a psychopath. These are not the characteristics of a psychopath."
