YPSILANTI, MI - Renovations for a new ice cream shop in Ypsilanti have paused after a car crashed into the building and caught fire.
A car crashed into 418 W. Michigan Ave. in Ypsilanti around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, before catching fire inside the building, said Lizbeth Schmidt with the Ypsilanti Fire Department. Fire also spread into the building, Schmidt said.
Ypsilanti police had been responding to a complaint of shots fired in the 600 block of Pearl Street when they learned a black SUV had fled the area and crashed into the building, police said in a release.
The man was located near the crash and arrested, police said. Charges have been submitted to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.
Damage to the building has delayed sweeter plans, though.
