MINNEAPOLIS — No, there is no quarterback controversy with the Minnesota Vikings.

There are those who want you to believe there is, but there's not.

Not yet.

J.J. McCarthy is the starting quarterback for the Vikings, for better or for worse. Head coach Kevin O'Connell and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah have committed to McCarthy as their QB1 twice — first by drafting him in the first round in 2024, then by refusing to sign Aaron Rodgers as a free agent before this season.

Carson Wentz is the backup, which is a good thing for the Vikings. The 10-year veteran signed just prior to the start of the regular season when O'Connell's favored backup, Sam Howell, proved he couldn't play by stinking in multiple preseason games.

Goodbye, Sam. Hello, Carson.
