HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WV News) — The West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission has selected Jack Cook Field in Huntington to be the site of the state baseball championships from 2026 through 2028, with an option for 2029.

The announcement marks a historic shift for the tournament, which had been held in Charleston every year since 1980, except for the pandemic-canceled 2020 season. Games were played at Watt Powell Park until 2004 and at GoMart Ballpark since 2005.

Charleston had recently broken a similar lengthy hold on the state high school football championships, winning the bid to host them after Wheeling had that right for decades.

Marshall University and the City of Huntington submitted a successful bid following a statewide process. The WVSSAC Board of Directors finalized
