MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WV News) — Law enforcement officers from across West Virginia gathered Monday for a seminar designed to tackle one of the most pressing issues facing police today: post-traumatic stress disorder and suicide.

The “Behind the Badge: PTSD and Suicide Prevention Seminar” was held at West Virginia University’s Erickson Alumni Center. Officers from the WVU Police Department joined their counterparts from multiple area law enforcement agencies for the free training session, which encouraged spouses and significant others to attend.

Stress is an inherent part of law enforcement, participants said, as officers are routinely exposed to traumatic events.
