BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors will hold a special session on Tuesday, Sept. 30, to consider a four-year, $229 million athletics budget adjustment aimed at boosting the Hokies’ competitiveness in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The proposal, which would blend internal resources with a $120 million fundraising campaign, is intended to stabilize athletics' finances by 2029.
University leaders said the investment is critical as the gap between top-tier programs and the rest of the field continues to widen. Limited increases in student fees could come in future years, though Virginia Tech maintains the lowest such fee of any public university in Virginia. Officials emphasized that the plan would not impact academic operations.
The budget discussion follows a turbulent
