TOANO, Va. — Drivers in James City County should prepare for detours starting this week as a long-term road closure begins near Interstate 64.
Six Mount Zion Road is scheduled to close as early as Monday from Mount Laurel Road to the intersection at La Grange Parkway. This section crosses under I-64 and will remain closed until spring 2026, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
Detour routes will direct drivers to use Route 30 (Barhamsville Road) via Fieldstone Parkway or La Grange Parkway. VDOT said access to I-64 ramps in the area will remain open, and no lane closures on the interstate itself are planned as part of this specific phase of construction.
The closure is part of the I-64 Gap Widening Project, which aims to ease congestion and improve safety betwee
