In the wake of a recent sexual assault of a three-year-old girl in Welland, Sharmila Setaram is urging the city to call on the province to expand its Victim Quick Response Program+.

The Ward 3 councillor wants the program to go beyond immediate, short-term emergency relief and include long-term, practical supports for victims of violent crime.

Tuesday, in a notice of motion to city council, she’ll ask the province for broader compensation-style supports, including replacement of essential personal and household items, relocation or moving expenses, income loss or wage replacement compensation and broader health-care-related supports.
