Monday afternoon marked a monumental change in the landscape of Auburn athletics.

Head basketball coach Bruce Pearl retired after 11 years leading the program and will now step into a role as an ambassador for the athletic department and as a special assistant to the athletic director.

Notably, in the video Auburn posted on social media of the 65-year-old Pearl announcing his retirement, he revealed that he will not run for the U.S. Senate, something he considered throughout the offseason.

“Many of you know that I thought and prayed about maybe running for the United States Senate, maybe to be the next great senator from the state of Alabama.” Pearl said in the video.
