DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - A new state report card is out for Iowa schools, showing improvement in key categories for students over the past year.
Iowa measures 1,276 schools on everything from test scores to suspensions to attendance. According to new scores from the Iowa Department of Education, attendance is up, and 78% of Iowa schools are now considered “acceptable” level under Iowa’s scoring system.
But a TV6 Investigates review of the data shows that while numbers are better than last year, some key metrics are yet to rebound to pre-COVID figures.
English scores have improved since the pandemic -- jumping from 69% proficient to 74%. But math scores are flat, the graduation rate is down 3%, and more students are still missing school than before the COVID shutdown.
