BLOOMINGTON ( 25News Now ) - Millions of dollars in National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure grants are on the way to fund EV charging stations along the interstate, including in Bloomington.

The $18.4 million in NEVI grants will fund 25 electric vehicle charging stations. Last year, Illinois received a first round of $25.3 million in NEVI grants to build 37 charging stations.

In Bloomington, $910,287 grant will go to Francis Energy Charging LLC to build an EV charging station at Eric’s Too Family Restaurant and Lounge.

According to a press release from State Rep. Sharon Chung, D-Bloomington, the grants aim to promote the electric vehicle industry. With an expanding partnership with Rivian, Chung said Bloomington is already a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing.
