More than once during his 40-minute press conference recapping Nebraska’s 30-27 loss to Michigan, coach Matt Rhule wanted to make sure reporters — or his players, or fans watching — didn’t misunderstand his tone.

He didn’t want to “overreact” to NU’s miscues Saturday. He didn’t want to underreact either.

Rhule preferred a “calculated” response that involved reflecting on the many plays Nebraska made — especially by quarterback Dylan Raiola — with the “45 plays” he showed the team where the Huskers could have done something different.

“What I’ve asked our guys is not to settle for the narrative where we’re a couple plays away,” Rhule said. “That’s a deadly, deadly thing, saying things like that.”
