PORTLAND, Ore. — People in the Pacific Northwest's softball community are mourning the death of coach Jeff Flood. He died in a crash involving another vehicle on Interstate 84 early Saturday morning, Oregon State Police said.
A driver in a BMW was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes when it hit Flood's Tesla head-on. The Tesla caught on fire and Flood died at the scene, according to OSP.
The driver of the BMW was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. OSP didn't immediately say whether the driver of the BMW is facing any criminal charges, but noted that the criminal investigation is ongoing.
KGW spoke to a parent whose son played for Flood. Ashley Caruso said that Flood had created a traveling baseball team, called Sandy Golden Spikes.
