MCLEAN COUNTY ( 25News Now ) - A woman who died in a house fire Friday in the small McLean County village of Saybrook has been identified, and authorities have released her probable cause of death.

McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder identified the victim as Carol D. Purcell, 72, of Saybrook.

Sheriff’s deputies arriving at the scene were told the home in the 300 block of West Oak Street was occupied, and Purcell’s body was found after the fire was put out.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate Purcell died from probable carbon monoxide intoxication after inhaling smoke and soot.

A release said toxicology testing is pending.

The State Fire Marshall is investigating, along with the coroner and the McLean County Sheriff’s Office.
