Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl announced his plans to retire Monday morning, and the university plans to name his son, Steven Pearl, as the new head coach.

Steven Pearl joined the staff with his father in the 2014-15 season as the strength and conditioning coach.

After serving as the Director of Basketball Operations and assistant coach from 2015-2023, Pearl was named the associate head coach in 2023.

Pearl is now the youngest head coach in SEC at age 38, surpassing Florida’s Todd Golden (40) and Texas A&M Bucky McMillian (42).

“In a sense, I’ve spent my lifetime preparing for this moment, learning from one of the best in Bruce Pearl, and building a foundation rooted in character, hard work, and team-first values,” Steven Pearl said, in a press release.
