KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Starting Tuesday, Kansas City Missouri Police Department officers will patrol while using blue lights.
Earlier this year, City Council and Mayor Quinton Lucas voted on a mandate asking KCPD to implement a new policy. The resolution called on police to use blue cruise lights on patrol cars continuously when driving marked cruisers.
Lucas said the lights would increase the visibility of police patrols while also working to deter crime.
The steady-burning blue lights do not signify an emergency.
“You do not need to pull over or get out of the way when you see these lights,” KCPD said in a post announcing the start of the program. “Blue lights will help our community know we are present.”
