NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - The Northampton City Council has unanimously voted to divest from companies they believe are complicit in human rights violations related to genocide.
The decision, supported by all seven council members, aims to address concerns over humanitarian issues in Gaza. The resolution was spearheaded by Ward 4 City Councilor Jeremy Dubs, who emphasized the importance of local action in response to residents' concerns about violence in the region.
"We want to be able to have a say to say we don't agree with genocide," said Councilor Dubs. "And that on a local level, we can say that with our tax dollars, we are going to make a statement about how we feel about this situation."
