SYLVANIA, Ga. (WJBF) - This week marks one year since one of the worst storms in the CSRA’s history.
Today we’re taking a look at Hurricane Helene recovery progress in Screven County.
In the town of Sylvania, residents like Keyanna Tanksley recall the first few days after the hurricane hit.
“Some homes were out of power for weeks at a time. Luckily I was only 4 days, but without having power we had to cook outside, grill outside, and I actually slept in my vehicle for those 4 days," said Tanksley.
City leaders say the storm was a once-in-a-lifetime event.
“In my experience here, and from other people that have lived here all their lives, they’ve never seen any kind of damage like we got when Hurricane Helene came through," said Stacy Mathis, city manager for Sylvania.
