ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Fayette County Schools superintendent Dr. Jonathan Patterson has apologized for what some are calling a blackface incident at a high school volleyball game.

The incident was captured in a photo that has gone viral online. The photo shows a group of people painted in black at a Whitewater High School volleyball game.

County elected leaders and parents say the apology isn’t enough. While several people have said they will take the superintendent at his word, but said that does not excuse the fact that more teaching about hurtful and offensive behavior is needed in the classroom.

“It’s just demoralizing, dehumanizing to the human race, the Black race,” said one Fayette County parent at the board of education meeting Monday.
