Premier Danielle Smith has tasked her municipal affairs minister with eliminating conflicts between provincial and local policies, limiting property tax increases, and developing a new universal code of conduct for municipal officials and staff.
Those priorities were among those spelled out in a mandate letter published Monday from Smith to Municipal Affairs Minister Dan Williams ahead of the return of MLAs to the legislature on Oct. 23.
In an interview with Postmedia, Williams characterized his goal in the months ahead as “getting back to basics.”
“This government is going to focus on making sure (municipalities) deliver those core services that residents are paying for,” Williams said.
