WENDELL, N.C. (WNCN) — One man is dead following a drowning at a home in Wake County Monday afternoon, deputies said.

According to the Wake County Sheriff's Office, first responders received request for a welfare check at a home in the 7000 block of Hodge Road near Wendell around 3:15 p.m.

While deputies searched the home, according to the sheriff's office, firefighters searched a pond in the backyard. After about two hours, they found a man's body in the pond.

Deputies said they are waiting to release the man's identity until his next of kin is notified.
