COLUMBIA STREET WATERFRONT DISTRICT — A task force comprised of elected officials and local leaders voted 17-8 Monday to approve a controversial $3.5 billion redevelopment plan of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal , t he 122-acre maritime site stretching from Atlantic Avenue to Red Hook on the East River.

Mayor Eric Adams, Gov. Kathy Hochul, New York City Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Andrew Kimball, Rep. Dan Goldman, and state Sen. Andrew Gounardes hailed the approval, saying in a joint release that the BMT proposal will “transform the dilapidated marine terminal into a 60-acre, all-electric maritime port that can, once again, serve as a key economic driver for the community and city.”
