Firefighters were called to a fire at a St. Catharines homeless encampment Monday afternoon.

At 2:13 p.m., St. Catharines Fire Services was called to the encampment behind Aerosports Trampoline Park on Ontario Street.

One truck immediately responded and encountered a fire that was larger than initially reported, resulting in another truck being dispatched.

Fire Chief Dave Upper said one woman sustained what’s believed to be minor injuries and was in the care of Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics when he arrived at the scene.

Upper said he wasn’t sure if she was taken to hospital.

The encampment contained several tents and is roughly 20 metres by six metres in size, Upper said. It was about halfway down the embankment toward Twelve Mile Creek.
