A small crowd gathered at Kenai North Beach Saturday afternoon to witness a heartwarming milestone — the release of Tango, a harbor seal pup rehabilitated by the Alaska SeaLife Center (ASLC). This marks the final seal release of the 2025 season for the Kenai area.
Tango was admitted to ASLC on May 31 after being found alone and emaciated on a beach near Homer.
“She was really skinny, really tiny, and in critical condition,” said Jane Belovarac, Wildlife Response Curator at the ASLC. “But we were able to get her through those challenges with medications and proper nutrition. Now she’s gained over 35 pounds.”
Tango’s recovery involved weeks of medical care and learning to hunt in “fish school.”
