CARNEY GAVE RECOGNITION NO THOUGHT

Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a statement recognizing a Palestinian state, contrary to Canada’s long history of Israeli support. Conditions of the recognition include the Palestinian Authority holding elections in 2026 and the demilitarizing of the state. How can Carney ensure this happens? How can he ensure Hamas complies? And, thirdly, should this decision not have been debated in the House where MPs could voice the views of their constituents? This was a seismic shift in Canada’s position needing some serious thought.
