Another former campaign rival endorsed Mary Sheffield, when the Detroit City Council President's Sheffield's council colleague Fred Durhal III announced Monday, Sept. 22 that he would support Sheffield for mayor of Detroit.

Sheffield's campaign said Durhal's endorsement "will highlight Durhal’s confidence in Sheffield’s leadership and her ability to guide the city of Detroit."

“I have seen firsthand her passion, integrity, determination and experience to fight for our city” Durhal said in a statement the Sheffield campaign issued after they made a joint appearance at the Harmony Cafe, which sits on the boundary separating the 7th City Council District, which Durhal has represented for the past four years, and the 5th City Council District, which Sheffield has represented since 2013.
