Summer's sticking around as fall kicks off — but not in the way of extra sunshine.
This week in New Mexico, monsoon activity will persist and a low-pressure system will bring further precipitation to the weekend. Accompanying temperatures are expected to hover near or below average.
"We're having some late action in this monsoon, and it may not quit, actually, on Sept. 30 like it's supposed to," meteorologist Clay Anderson joked at a Monday briefing by the National Weather Service's Albuquerque office.
The summer monsoon officially ends at the end of the month. Monday, meanwhile, marked the start of fall.
Meteorologists predict Tuesday will bring scattered showers and storms in the late afternoon and evening to Eastern New Mexico, causing brief heavy rain and gusty winds. A cold front
